Lisbon, Portugal – October 2024 – SpectroCor participated as an exhibitor at the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) 2024 Annual Congress in Lisbon, presenting its spectrophotometry-based technology for real-time observation of myocardial tissue oxygenation.
EACTS is one of the most prominent global events in cardiothoracic surgery, bringing together leading surgeons, researchers, and industry representatives. The 2024 congress in Lisbon provided a platform for scientific exchange, clinical innovation, and collaboration across the field.
At the exhibition, SpectroCor introduced the SpectroCor Tissue Oxygenation Monitor and SpectroCor Sensor. Together, they form a fiber-optic solution for monitoring myocardial tissue during open-heart surgery.
The technology is designed to help clinicians observe changes in myocardial tissue oxygenation in real time. These changes reflect the balance between oxygen supply and consumption in the monitored myocardial volume.
EACTS is a key event for the cardiothoracic community
SpectroCor attended EACTS 2024 to meet cardiac surgeons, researchers, and clinical partners, and to discuss opportunities for research collaboration and clinical evaluation.
“EACTS is a key meeting point for the cardiothoracic community. For us, it was an important opportunity to introduce our technology, exchange insights with colleagues, and initiate discussions around future collaborations,” said Tommi Pätilä, pediatric cardiac surgeon and founder of SpectroCor.
At the booth, visitors learned about the optical principles behind the technology, discussed potential clinical applications, and explored how real-time observation of myocardial tissue oxygenation could complement current intraoperative monitoring.
The Lisbon congress highlighted the continued evolution of cardiac surgery toward more data-informed and physiology-driven decision-making. Technologies that enable direct interrogation of myocardial tissue may contribute to a deeper understanding of intraoperative tissue status and support future clinical research.
SpectroCor is advancing its technology through ongoing development and collaboration with clinical partners. The technology presented at EACTS 2024 is under development and not yet available for clinical use.
