SpectroCor Presents Pioneering Technology at EACTS 2025

Helsinki, Finland – Finnish medical technology company SpectroCor Oy participated in the EACTS 2025 Annual Meeting and Exhibition, presenting its innovative cardiac surgery monitoring technology to leading clinicians, researchers and industry experts.

At the exhibition, SpectroCor showcased its novel real-time monitoring solution for cardiac surgery. The technology is being developed to support intraoperative decision-making by enabling monitoring of the myocardial tissue at the mitochondrial-level – an area that has previously been inaccessible to surgical teams.

SpectroCor’s participation followed its earlier recognition by the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, where the company received the EACTS Innovation Grant for its groundbreaking technology.

Alongside SpectroCor’s exhibition presence, Associate Professor Tommi Pätilä presented the company’s first-in-man findings in a moderated e-poster session. The abstract, “A Novel Mitochondrial-level Myocardial Oxygenation Monitoring Device – First in Man,” highlighted early clinical experience with the technology.

“Open-heart surgery requires real-time information on how the heart is tolerating this period. Our technology aims to provide that missing physiological insight at the exact moment when it can support surgical decision-making” , says Associate Professor Tommi Pätilä, pediatric heart and transplant surgeon, who leads the project.

SpectroCor’s technology offers cardiac surgeons a new window into the heart during surgery. By monitoring oxygenation at the mitochondrial level, the system is being developed to help improve heart protection and reduce the risk of complications in cardiac surgery.

“Our presence at EACTS 2025 was an important opportunity to engage with the international cardiac surgery community and share the progress we have made from innovation recognition toward first clinical experience,” says Dr. Kalle Kotilahti, Chief Engineer and CEO of SpectroCor.
